FAQ
Supported Independent Living (SIL) — Common Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most often about this service.
SIL (Supported Independent Living) is the funding for the support people — the paid support workers who help you with daily tasks in your home. SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is the funding for the physical building or home itself. You may need both, or just one, depending on your situation.
Where possible, yes. We try to match housemates whose support needs, lifestyles, and personalities are compatible. We'll discuss your preferences before any arrangement is made, and you always have the right to raise concerns.
The level of overnight support depends on your NDIS plan. Options range from an on-call support worker (available if needed) to active overnight shifts where a worker is awake and available throughout the night. We'll help you advocate for the right level in your plan.
Yes. Short Term Accommodation (respite) is a great way to experience supported independent living before making a long-term decision. Talk to our team about trialling the arrangement first.
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that funds supports and services for people with a permanent and significant disability. Once approved, you receive an individual plan with funding allocated across three budget categories: Core, Capacity Building, and Capital Supports. You choose how and with whom you use your funding.
To be eligible you generally need to be under 65 years of age, an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or Protected Special Category Visa holder, and have a permanent disability that significantly affects your daily life. You can check eligibility at ndis.gov.au or call us — our team will help you understand your options at no cost.
No. Our initial consultation is completely free and no-obligation. We'll discuss your goals, explain our services, and help you understand how your NDIS funding can be used — before you commit to anything.
